Estos sistemas son m\u00e1s eficientes que las centrales el\u00e9ctricas tradicionales, que s\u00f3lo producen electricidad y desperdician una cantidad significativa de calor. Por ejemplo, la eficiencia total del combustible de un sistema de cogeneraci\u00f3n puede alcanzar los 80%, frente a un m\u00e1ximo inferior a 50% para el calor y la electricidad por separado. Los economizadores, o unidades de recuperaci\u00f3n de calor (HRU), capturan el calor y lo reutilizan para calentar agua u otras aplicaciones.<\/p>\n<p>Encontrar\u00e1 sistemas de cogeneraci\u00f3n en instalaciones industriales, hospitales, universidades y otros grandes edificios donde haya una demanda constante de ambas formas de energ\u00eda. Estos sistemas ofrecen varias ventajas: pueden reducir los costes energ\u00e9ticos de un edificio, disminuir sus emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y aumentar su fiabilidad energ\u00e9tica. Sin embargo, el calor generado debe evacuarse de forma segura. Un sellado deficiente o las fugas -que pueden encontrarse en sistemas de cogeneraci\u00f3n mal construidos- pueden provocar una exposici\u00f3n peligrosa para el personal y plantear riesgos de incendio cuando se encuentran cerca de materiales combustibles. Estos gases de escape suelen contener emisiones t\u00f3xicas, como CO, NO<sub>2<\/sub>y otros contaminantes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Integraci\u00f3n con la infraestructura existente<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Las unidades de cogeneraci\u00f3n, los sistemas de recuperaci\u00f3n de calor y el almacenamiento de combustible requieren espacio f\u00edsico, que puede ser limitado en una instalaci\u00f3n existente.
